Melanoma

Melanoma in Greenwich, CT

Melanoma can cause a series of medical issues, but when caught early, can be completely curable. Our team of Board Certified Dermatologists are proud to offer treatments for melanoma to patients in Greenwich, Stamford, and the neighboring communities in Fairfield County.

What is Melanoma?

While only one percent of skin cancers are diagnosed as melanoma, this type of skin cancer is most commonly overlooked by patients. Melanoma can be diagnosed at four different stages. When melanoma is caught and treated within its early stages, it can cause little to no harm to the rest of the body. For this reason, we encourage all of our patients to keep track of their moles and come in for yearly full-body skin cancer screening and detections with one of our providers.

What does Melanoma Look Like?

Melanoma can be characterized in a variety of ways. We tell our patients to be on the lookout for the following when searching for skin irregularities and possible melanoma:

  • Irregular mole shape or border
  • Uneven coloring of a mole
  • Moles larger than a quarter of an inch in diameter
  • Moles that change in size, shape, or color
  • Moles that itch or bleed regularly

Because melanoma is most often caused by exposure to the sun, we encourage our patients to check their arms, legs, midriffs, necks, scalps, and face thoroughly for any irregularities. We also highly recommend our patients wear a medical-grade SPF on a daily basis to ensure protection from harmful UV rays.
