Skin Cancer Surgery

When skin cancer becomes severe, skin cancer surgery may be the appropriate solution. Our team of Board Certified Dermatologists are proud to offer skin cancer surgery to patients in Greenwich, Stamford, and the neighboring communities in Fairfield County.

What is Skin Cancer Surgery?

Because skin cancer does not typically present any alarming signs or symptoms, it tends to go untreated for a long time. Patients who let their skin cancer go untreated may be surprised to find that their affected lesion may no longer be able to be treated with less invasive procedures. For severe cases of skin cancer, Dr. Sarah Dolder and her expert medical team provide skin cancer surgery. These surgical procedures involve removing the affected cancerous region through a series of incisions and excisions to ensure the patient is completely cancer-free. Dr. Dolder may suggest skin cancer surgery be performed on:

  • Squamous cell carcinoma
  • Melanoma
  • Basal cell carcinoma

What Can I Expect During my Skin Cancer Surgery?

Your skin cancer surgery will be performed by one of our Board Certified Dermatologists in our beautiful, state-of-the-art facility. Before your treatment begins, your provider will apply a local anesthetic to your treatment area to ensure you remain as comfortable as possible throughout your surgical treatment. Once you are completely numb and relaxed, your doctor will then begin excising the cancerous tissue with a series of incisions. Once all of the visibly affected areas have been removed, your doctor will use sutures to close the wound and send the excised tissues off to a lab for testing.

What Can I Expect After my Skin Cancer Surgery?

Your doctor will provide you with detailed post-operative care instructions to ensure quick and easy healing prior to your skin cancer surgery. Most patients are able to return to their normal daily activities, including work or school, immediately following their skin cancer surgery. You may be required to follow up with your doctor throughout your healing process and after you’ve healed to ensure your entire cancerous area has been removed.
