Vein Treatment

Unsightly spider veins and varicose veins on the backs of our legs can make us feel

self-conscious on trips to the beach or pool. At Greenwich Point Dermatology, Dr. Sarah Dolder is proud to offer sclerotherapy, a minimally-invasive technique for removing pesky veins.

About Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is the removal of unwanted veins, most often on your legs. We use Asclera® (polidocanol) Injection, an advanced prescription medicine that treats two types of veins:

  • Uncomplicated spider veins (very small varicose veins ≤ 1 mm indiameter)
  • Uncomplicated reticular veins (1 to 3 mm indiameter)

Sclerotherapy Treatment

After an initial consultation and examination, Dr. Dolder injects Asclera® solution into the affected veins. This instigates a clot that the body repairs and replaces with tissue over the course of several weeks. The appointment takes anywhere from a few minutes to half and hour, and post-injection, we encourage patients to walk around for 15-20 minutes for best results.

Sclerotherapy Results

Final results are seen in about three months. While some tenacious veins require a follow-up or two spaced 4-8 weeks apart, the majority of cases, especially those with spider veins and smaller varicose veins, can be resolved in a single treatment.

Sclerotherapy Side Effects & Recovery

Bruising can occur at the site of the injection. To minimize bruising and soreness, it’s best to be avoid any strenuous activity or exercise the first few days following treatment and to wear compression stockings for up to a week after the procedure.
